This is a sacred site preserved for posterity by a quick
thinking European around the turn of the century and now
a destination of major interest to those studying Hawaiian
antiquities.
Part
of the area was the dwelling of the kings of Hawaii with
their private beach, fish ponds etc. and part was a place
of refuge where women, children and old people would go
in times of war for safety.
A
kahuna (priest) was also there to absolve any person who
broke a kapu which was punishable by death
